The Alabama Water Institute recently welcomed student intern Ava Noffsinger as a student intern for its Community-oriented Nature-based Science for Ecosystem and Versatile Engineering, or CONSERVE, research group.

Noffsinger, a junior at The University of Alabama, joined AWI in the spring of 2023. She is majoring in anthropology with minors in English and international business. Noffsinger works under Michael Fedoroff, Director of Cultural and Water Resources Preservation, and Amanda Blair, the CIROH project coordinator.

Noffsinger works primarily with social media and communications for CONSERVE. Additionally, she attends meetings related to CONSERVE and its partners; the Rivercane Restoration Alliance, DoD Partners in Preservation Network and DIGISEED.

“It’s important now more than ever to support and communicate water resource management and sustainability with the prevalence of environmental crisis,” Noffsinger said.

Noffsinger joined the team to gain work experience in the field of anthropology and to support AWI’s growing research portfolio.

“As an anthropologist, I’m excited about working to implement the social sciences into CONSERVE’s initiative,” she said.
