AWI Spotlight: Jade Richardson

Jade Richardson

The Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology, or CIROH, (CIROH) is excited to welcome Jade Richardson as its new communications specialist student intern.

Richardson is a senior at The University of Alabama obtaining her degree in public relations with a minor in psychology. She has been working with CIROH since the spring of 2023 and will continue until the end of the year.

As a communications specialist intern, Richardson is responsible for creating feature articles and social media posts that highlight CIROH researchers and their findings. During her years attending the University, she has developed an interest in writing and is excited to combine her work from the College of Communication and Information Sciences with water research.

“When you merge communication strategies with significant research findings, knowledge can be spread to a larger number of people,” said Richardson. “Water resource management and sustainability are matters that affect every person, so it is important for messages regarding these topics to be comprehensible. I’m excited to translate information to an audience in ways that can be easily understood.”

One of Richardson’s favorite events she has attended while working with the AWI has been Dr. Ben Hayes’ WaterWorks presentation, “Leveraging Local Waterways for Curriculum and Stewardship.”

“If academic institutions continue to expand research opportunities available on campus, I believe more students will graduate with a complex comprehension of the world around them,.” she said.

Richardson works under CIROH Executive Director Dr. Steve Burian, communications director Zach Krauss and multimedia specialist and writer Brock Parker.
